A disturbing warning only serves to confirm her misgivings, making her question her purpose in life. Finally, a shocking discovery about the true nature of her powers points the way forward, sending the two Cals on a dangerous rescue mission.
Caledonia tries her best to right the wrongs of the past, but will she only end up provoking new and even more dangerous enemies?
What I thought:
A big thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this!
If you haven’t read the first book, go find a copy because it was really good! This next book continues right after the first one, and Cal and Cali are hiding from Professor Reed by camping and staying in random hotels. They of course get into gambling and use her ability to the best they can to help, but I’m just glad she felt bad doing it. Her character is still that of a kind girl who’s getting used to the world, but she’s still smart and resourceful. They also find out more about the Athena Effect and of course about Cali’s family, which was really awesome!
The romance between the two was so sweet, especially how much they loved each other, the whole thing with her seeing emotions really helped me connect with them. Their love felt more real because of the worrying of losing each other and all the hardships they’ve been through together, which is something people in real life go through, not just insta-love/lust.
While this book was a fun read and I did like the story, I didn’t love it quite as much as the first one, probably because the budding romance and danger they faced in the first was so intense. But don’t get me wrong, this one was pretty close to being as good as the first. I do have a feeling though that the next book will be even more awesome!
